കർത്താവായ യേശുവിൽ സ്നേഹമുള്ളവരേ, വർഷങ്ങളായി നാം ആചരിച്ചുവരുന്ന ബൈബിൾ ഞായർ ഈ വർഷം മെയ്മാസം 12 .. ാം തീയതി ആഘോഷിക്കുകയാണ്. അതിന് ഒരുക്കമായി മെയ് 6 മുതൽ 11 വരെ ബൈബിൾ വാരമായി നാം ആചരിക്കുന്നു. ബൈബിൾ ഞായറിന്റെയും ബൈബിൾ വാരാചരണത്തിന്റെയും മുഖ്യവിഷയമായി സ്വീകരിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നത് "ബൈബിളിലൂടെ ക്രിസ്തുവിലേക്ക്" എന്നതാണ്. പാപാന്ധകാരത്താൽ നിറഞ്ഞ മനുഷ്യവർഗ്ഗത്തെ സുവിശേഷദീപ്തിയാൽ പ്രകാശിതമാക്കുവാൻ വന്ന വചനമായ ക്രിസ്തുവിനെക്കുറിച്ച് ഒരു വിചിന്തനം നടത്തുന്നത് ബൈബിൾ ഞായർ ആഘോഷിക്കുവാൻ ഒരുങ്ങുന്ന ഈ അവസരത്തിൽ ഉചിതമായിരിക്കുമല്ലോ. വി. ഗ്രന്ഥങ്ങളിലൂടെ തെളിഞ്ഞു വരുന്ന ക്രിസ്തുവിനെ അറിയുകയും ക്രിസ്ത്വനുഭവത്തിൽ വളരുകയും ചെയ്യേണ്ടതിനെക്കുറിച്ചാണ് നാം ചിന്തിക്കുക.. ഇസ്രായേൽ ജനതയുടെ ആഴമേറിയ ദൈവാനുഭവവും വിശ്വാസവുമാണ് പഴയനിയമഗ്രന്ഥങ്ങൾക്ക് രൂപം നൽകിയതെങ്കിൽ ആദിമ ക്രൈസ്തവ സഭയാണ് പുതിയനിയമത്തിന്റെ ഉറവിടം. ഏതൊക്കെ പുസ്തകങ്ങളാണ് ദൈവനിവേശിതവും കാനോനികവുമെന്ന് സഭയാണ് പറഞ്ഞുതന്നിട്ടുള്ളത്. അതു കൊണ്ട് ബൈബിൾ സഭയുടെ പുസ്തകമാണ്. സഭയ്ക്കു മുമ്പേയല്ല സഭയിലാണ് ബൈബിൾ ഉണ്ടായത്. ജീവിതപ്രശ്നങ്ങളെ അഭിമുഖീകരിക്കുമ്പോൾ വി. ഗ്രന്ഥത്തിലേക്കും സഭയുടെ ഒൗദേ്യാഗികപ്രബോധനങ്ങളിലേക്കും നമ്മൾ തിരിയണം.. ക്രിസ്തുവിലൂടെ രക്ഷയെന്നത് വി. ഗ്രന്ഥത്തിലെ കാതലായ പ്രമേയമാണല്ലോ. ആ ക്രിസ്തുവിനെ അറിയുന്നതിനുള്ള ഒരു മാർഗ്ഗമാണ് വി. ഗ്രന്ഥപഠനം. വചനവായനയിലൂടെയും ധ്യാനത്തിലൂടെയും ക്രിസ്തുവിലേയ്ക്ക് നടന്നടുക്കണം. യോഹന്നാൻ സുവിശേഷകൻ എഴുതുന്നു : "ആദിയിൽ വചനമുണ്ടായിരുന്നു. വചനം ദൈവത്തോടുകൂടെയായിരുന്നു. വചനം ദൈവമായിരുന്നു." ഇസ്രായേൽ ജനത നൂറ്റാണ്ടുകളോളം കാത്തിരുന്ന മിശിഹാ മനുഷ്യരൂപം സ്വീകരിച്ച് ഭൂമിയിൽ ജാതനായി. "കന്യക ഗർഭം ധരിച്ച് ഒരു പുത്രനെ പ്രസവിക്കും; അവൻ എമ്മാനുവേൽ എന്നു വിളിയ്ക്കപ്പെടും." എന്ന ഏശയ്യാ പ്രവാചകന്റെ പ്രവചനം ക്രിസ്തുവിലാണ് പൂർത്തിയാക്കപ്പെട്ടത്. ദൈവത്തോടു സമാനതയുണ്ടായിട്ടും ഒന്നുമില്ലാത്തവനെപ്പോലെ ദരിദ്രരിൽ ദരിദ്രനായി മണ്ണിലവതരിച്ച ക്രിസ്തു തന്റെ ജീവിതത്തിലൂടെ സ്നേഹത്തിന്റെയും ത്യാഗത്തിന്റെയും പങ്കുവയ്ക്കലിന്റെയും യഥാർത്ഥ മാതൃക കാണിച്ചുതന്നു. ദൈവരാജ്യം സമീപിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു. നിങ്ങൾ പശ്ചാത്തപിച്ച് മാനസാന്തരപ്പെടുവിൻ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞുകൊണ്ട് സുവിശേഷ പ്രഘോഷണം തുടങ്ങിയ യേശു വാക്കുകളിലൂടെയും പ്രവൃത്തികളിലൂടെയും തന്റെ ദൗത്യം തുടർന്നു. അപ്പവും വീഞ്ഞും സ്വന്തം ശരീരരക്തങ്ങളായി നൽകിക്കൊണ്ട് ആത്മദാനത്തിന്റെയും പങ്കുവയ്ക്കലിന്റെയും വലിയ സന്ദേശം നമുക്കു നൽകി. പിതാവായ ദൈവം ലോകത്തിനു നൽകിയ സ്നേഹദാനം "സ്നേഹിതർക്കു" വേണ്ടി ജീവനർപ്പിച്ച് യേശുക്രിസ്തു പൂർത്തിയാക്കി. ക്രിസ്തുവിന്റെ പീഡാസഹനവും കുരിശുമരണവും ഉയിർപ്പും രക്ഷാകരചരിത്രത്തിലെ വിവിധ നിർണ്ണായക നിമിഷങ്ങളാണ്. നന്മമാത്രം ചെയ്ത് ചുറ്റിസഞ്ചരിച്ച യേശു ദൈവത്തിന് നമ്മോടുള്ള സ്നേഹം അനുഭവിച്ചറിയാൻ നമ്മെ പ്രാപ്തരാക്കുകയും ദൈവിക ജീവനിൽ നമ്മെ പങ്കുകാരാക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു. ദൈവത്തിന്റെ ഈ മഹോന്നത ദാനത്തെ ജനമദ്ധ്യത്തിൽ പ്രഘോഷിക്കുന്നതിൽ ക്രിസ്ത്യാനികൾ ഒരിക്കലും വീഴ്ചവരുത്തുവാൻ പാടില്ലാത്തതാണ്.

Beloved ones in Lord Jesus, The Bible Sunday, which we have been celebrating for many years is celebrated this year on 12th May. As a preparation for it we celebrate the Bible Week starting from May 6th and ending on May 11th. The theme proposed for Bible Sunday and Bible Week is "To Christ through the Bible". While we are preparing for Bible Sunday celebration, it is fitting to meditate upon Jesus, the word who came to enlighten ,the human race filled with the darkness of sin. We must think about the need for knowing Christ who reveals himself in the Holy Scriptures and of growing in Christ-experience. If the Old Testament books are formed by the deep God experience and faith of the Israel, the New Testament books are formed by the early Christian Church. It is the church which has told us which books are inspired and canonical. Therefore the Bible is the book of the church. The Bible was written not before the origin of the church but it was written in the church. When we face the problems of life we must turn to the holy Bible and to the official teachings of the church. "Salvation through Christ" is an essential theme of the Holy Scripture. The way to know that Christ is the study of the bible. we have to reach Christ through the reading of the Bible and meditating upon it. The evangelist Job writes; "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God". The Christ, Mesiha, whom Israel expected for centuries became man and was born in the world. Isaiah has prophesied thus: "Look, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall name him 'Emmanuel' which means, 'God is with Us'". It is in Jesus Christ that this prophecy is realized. Christ was born as the poorest man among to poor men. And he showed us his life, the noble model of love, sacrifice and sharing. Jesus Christ began the proclamation of the good news saying. 'The Kingdom of God is at hand. Have repentance and be converted'. And he continued his mission through his words and acts. He gave us the message of self-offering and sharing by giving his body and blood as bread and wine. The gift of love which God the father gave to the world was completed by Jesus Christ who 'offered his for the friends'. The passion, the death on the cross and the resurrection of Jesus are the different critical moments in the salvation history. Jesus, who went around doing only good, enabled us to experience the love which God has for us. He made us sharers of the life of God. Christians must never desist from proclaiming among people, this supreme gift of God. As St. Jerome has said 'the ignorance about the Bible is the ignorance about Christ'. While the church teaches us she is teaching the truths of the Bible. The Church is always with us as mother to lead us in Christian ways. No Catholic can lead a real Christian's life without obtaining the deep teaching of the church as regards faith. Christian perfection which originates from the Bible. A Christian knows the elements of Christian perfection which originate from the Bible. A Christian know about the Holy mass, Sacraments, Sacramental canonical prayer, piety towards Virgin Mary and other saints, the unity of the Church which is the continuation of Christ, and the social dimensions which nourish the holiness of life. Together with the knowledge about the Bible, a Christian must know these elements. Then only the knowledge about Christ and his teaching becomes perfect. The church urges her children to read the word of God to study it and to lead a life according to it. We must have a pastoral view about the word of God so as to enthrone the word of God in the hearts of the parishes, families and individuals. It is a pastoral activity to create Bible Study Forums in every parish. They may be weekly or monthly or annual study forums. It will help the study of the Bible. It will help to progress in knowledge and experience of the word of God. It will help also to build up a life based on the Word of God. The faith is celebrated in the parishes when in holy Mass the Bible is honored and proclaimed. The dictionary used in the Holy Mass contains texts from Old Testament and New Testament. It presents the Holy Scripture in its totality. It opens to us the immense treasures of the Bible and thus we experience the sweetness of it. This year also there will be different programmes in POC, Palarivattom, under the KCBC Bible Commission. They will help to inspire an interest in the Holy Scriptures, which invites us to the Christ experience. The following are some of the programmes: Bible Courses for Priests, Religious Men and Women, and Lay People, Bible Correspondence Course, Bible Arts Festival, Competitions in Arts & Literature, Logos Quiz 2002, Bible Apostolate Directors of all the dioceses, different activities of Kerala Catholic Bible Society. The Logos Quiz conducted by the Bible Society is to encourage people to read and study the Bible. Last year the Logos Quiz was conducted in which all the dioceses participated. And 18500 competitors in 1700 centers took part in it. I pray God to shower His abundant blessings upon those who took part in the Logos Quiz showing earnest desire in reading and studying the Scriptures. This year 2002 the texts decided for study are the gospel of St. Luke and the first and second letters of St. Peter. I do exhort lovingly all the faithful to join in this study programmes, which expresses the unity of church at Kerala State level. I request all Parish Priests , Rev. Sisters, Catechists and the office bearers of different societies to encourage people so that many more people may participate in the Logos Quiz. Kerala Catholic Bible Society is a forum where the Kerala Christians can work together for the proclamation and propagation of the word of God. Those who take membership in the Bible Society can obtain copies of the Bible and books about the Bible at a reduced price. It is because of the co-operation rendered by all the faithful that the Bible Society is enabled to work out many plans such as Bible Quiz and Bible Calendar. Numerous people demand copies of the Bible as gifts. We expect donations from generous people in order to enliven the activities of the Society. You may send donation tithe for the Bible Apostolate to Kerala Catholic Bible Society functioning in POC, Palarivattom. May many more people come forward to strengthen the activities of the society, by taking membership and by praying. I do urge you to take the benefits of the society by involving in all the activities of the society either through the diocesan Bible Apostolate Director or through the Bible Commission Secretary. The KCBC Bible Commission, which is leading the Bible Apostolate now, expects the prayers and donations of all the faithful. The collection, which is to be taken on the Bible Sunday, may be entrusted with the diocesan center for the Bible Commission. May the Bible Sunday and the Bible week celebrations of this year help all the faithful to come to Christ experience through the reading and studying of the scriptures and may it help all to be filled with a spirit of love, Gift and sharing, accepting the example of Christ.
